Clothing grants

If your children are entitled to free school meals they will also receive a clothing grant. If your children are not entitled to free school meals you may qualify for a clothing grant if you receive Tax Credit and your income, as assessed by the HM Revenue and Customs, does not exceed £15,575.

Appeals

All applications that do not meet the criteria will be refused and parents will have the right to appeal to the council's Appeals Committee. All appeals will be considered by the committee on their individual merits.

How to apply

To apply for a clothing grant you need to complete SS1 application form. You can download the application form below or use the contact details below to request a form.

You should apply before the end of term 2 in the academic year. Late applications will be considered individually but you must tell us why the application is late and we will check your child's school attendance record.

Clothing grant payments

You can receive clothing grant payments directly into your bank account. However, if you have a post office account for receiving benefits, you will continue to receive payment by cheque.

Payments will be issued after 28 June 2008. Letters explaining how much grant you are entitled to will be issued in stages from 7 July.

If you receive a cheque, you should pay this into your bank account if you have one. If not, you can cash the cheque at one of the council's cash offices in the One Stop Shops between the hours of 9.00am to 2.30pm Monday to Friday. You will need your notification letter and proof of identification when cashing your cheque. Details can be found in your letter.

Details of the One Stop Shops can be found by clicking on the link below.

One stop shops

Please note that the arrangement with the cash office starts on 7 July 2008 and will last for nine weeks only.

If you have not cashed your cheque at the Cash Office by Friday 5 September 2008 and you do not have a bank account in which to pay it, you can take your cheque, grant notification letter and identification to the Huyton or Kirkby One Stop Shop where the officer will inform you of the procedures to follow to cash the cheque.

Lost cheques

If you lose the cheque or it doesn't arrive in the post, a detailed examination of the circumstances will be undertaken. This includes a cheque clearance investigation. This may take some time and we will not be able to reissue the cheque until the investigation is complete.
