Building Schools for the Future (BSF) will provide just under £150m to build seven new learning centres in Knowsley. These will replace the 11 existing secondary schools, and will be exciting and inspiring places for students to learn.

The high quality buildings will support advances in educational delivery and technology and will suit the needs of any learning activity. They will provide opportunities for all Knowsley residents to learn in state of the art environments by 2009.

We are one of 12 authorities in the first wave of BSF. Our vision for secondary education seeks to build on the significant improvements already made.  Through our secondary programme we aim to:

  • Enhance choice and diversity of school provision for Knowsley residents.
  • Place schools at the heart of the community.
  • Promote, develop and support the offer of extended and co-located provision on learning centre sites, including health and social services.
  • Provide appropriate, stable and sustainable learning environments that support teachers and learners.
  • Develop flexible learning spaces to promote lifelong learning and inclusion.
  • Develop new approaches to managing 21st century learning centres.
  • Construct inclusive and accessible buildings.
  • Provide innovative and effective implemetation of information learning technologies.
  • Support the implementation of key government policies, including integrated children's services, 14-19 education and workforce remodelling; and
  • Progress leadership and management development in schools.
