Background to Future Schooling in Knowsley

In 2001 Knowsley embarked upon a strategic review of its school system, known locally as the Independent Knowsley Schools' Commission.
Following the recommendation for transformational reform and school reorganisation, we published Future Schooling in Knowsley: Towards 21st Century Learning Environments 2006-2008. This set out new principles for transformational reform, linked to increased integration of services for children and families, and a focus on the neighbourhood agende. These included:
- School places, peformance and viability
- Learning environments for the 21st century
- Choice and diversity in the school system
- Retention of pupils
- Pupil choice - transforming the curriculum to meet learner preference
- Concept Knowsley - schools and extended services
- Inclusion
- Governance for 21st century learning environments
- Leadership and management of 21st century learning environments
Future Schooling in Knowsley also set out a framework for the reorganisation for primaries and special schools and identified priorities for capital investment.
