Skills audit
In addressing the challenges that many areas of the
children’s workforce face there is a need to raise the
importance of retaining staff by offering them better development
opportunities and clear career progression opportunities across
services and agencies.
It is important that staff have the appropriate knowledge and
skills and that these are clearly understood by the key
stakeholders and partners in order that effective workforce
planning can be undertaken across the whole children’s
services workforce.
In response to the changing practices within the Children and Young
People’s Partnership there is a need to ensure staff have
skills in new and developing areas such as commissioning and
procurement, Common Assessment Framework, e-CAF and information
sharing.
The professional competence and continuing development of staff is
vital to the quality of service provided to children and young
people. Through the workforce data and skills analysis tool we will
be able to identify the current profile of qualifications held by
staff which will enable us to target segments of the workforce and
indeed particular qualifications thus providing opportunities for
staff to improve their competence from basic skills upwards.
