Numeracy
All Knowsley schools follow the
National Numeracy Strategy Framework
for the teaching of Mathematics. This
includes:
- Using and applying mathematical skills
- Number
- Shape and Space
- Mental and Oral work on Problem Solving
Schools usually timetable daily
mathematics lessons lasting between 45
minutes to 1 hour and pupils are
taught in whole-class and small-group
settings as well as working
independently. In addition,
mathematical skills should be
practised and embedded across other
areas of a wide and creative
curriculum.
National age-related expectations mean that schools aim to support children in reaching level 2 by the end of Key Stage 1 and level 4 by the end of Key Stage 2.
