Welcome to Education and Learning

Literacy
All Knowsley schools follow the
National Literacy Strategy Framework
for the teaching of English. This
includes:
- Speaking
- Listening
- Reading
- Writing
- Spelling
- Sentence level skills [grammer]
Pupils take part in daily literacy
lessons lasting approximately one hour
and are taught in whole-class and
small-group settings as well as
working independently. In addition,
reading and writing skills should be
practised and embedded across all
other areas of a wide and creative
curriculum.
National age-related expectations mean that schools aim to support children in reaching level 2 by the end of Key Stage 1 and level 4 by the end of Key Stage 2.
