Access Tools

The English as an Additional Language service (EAL) operates across the borough of Knowsley. We help children with EAL needs so that they can access learning in our schools and integrate socially. We aim to achieve this by:

• Acting in a supportive and advisory role.
• Providing language support in schools for pupils who have been assessed as needing it, although this does depend on the circumstances at the time.
• Providing resources for school use and for home loans.
• Providing training at whole school level for teachers and support staff.
• Providing links with other agencies.

Referral is usually via the school to which the child is being admitted and sometimes via other partners.
