Traffic Calming - Two Butt Lane, Whiston

Traffic Consultation Closed

Concerns have been raised by local residents and Ward Members about the traffic situation along Two Butt Lane, Whiston. The concerns primarily relate to the excessive speed of vehicles using the route, and the fact that the narrow width of the road combined with these speeds often leads to conflicting vehicles mounting the kerb to avoid collision.

To address these concerns by aiming to reduce the speeds of vehicles along Two Butt Lane, a scheme was developed which proposed the widening of the road. Consultation on these initial proposals was undertaken which involved a consultation letter and a copy of the scheme drawing being delivered to residents of the Sandstone Drive and Watling Way Residential Estates (whose properties back onto Two Butt Lane).

Of the 45 consultation letters distributed, around 15 responses were received – a response rate of approximately 33%. The majority of the residents who returned the slips were in favour of the proposals (93% in favour, 7% against).

The costs associated with the diversion of the statutory undertakers equipment (e.g. British Telecom, Transco) required for the road widening scheme were such that the scheme could not be recommended for implementation. As a result, a revised scheme has now been developed which proposes the introduction of traffic calming measures along Two Butt Lane.

Status

Consultation on these proposals will be undertaken in the coming months, with those residents directly affected by the proposals being provided with details of the scheme.
