Residents survey 2005

The Residents survey 2005 was sent to thousands of households across Knowsley to find out what you thought about living in the borough and the services the Council provides.

The questionnaire was completed by 1,977 residents. Some key issues to emerge were:

  • Respondents reflected that crime and activities for teenagers had actually become worse in the past 3 years
  • The biggest problems reported in local areas were teenagers hanging round (65%), vandalism, graffiti and damage (57%) and people using and dealing drugs (57%).  Respondents categorised these as a very big or fairly big problem
  • Overall, just over a quarter of respondents (26%) agreed or strongly agreed their local neighbourhood has improved over the past three years
  • Two thirds of respondents (66%) felt fairly or very well informed about council services and benefits.  The remaining third (34%) felt they received a limited amount of information or not much at all
  • A quarter (25%) of respondents felt that the council's running of things had got better in the past 12 months, while 10% of people felt that the running of things had got worse. Most felt there had been no change.

Overall, respondents thought the council performed best at:

  • refuse and recycling collections;
  • standard of service;
  • litter removal and street cleansing; and
  • recycling.

Overall, respondents thought the council performed badly at:

  • litter removal; and
  • street cleaning.

Respondents would like to see the following improved:

  • youth facilities
  • litter removal/street cleaning
  • policing

The findings of the survey have been used in our Local Area Agreement feedback and have been used to plan the Concept Knowsley initiative in terms of local resident key priorities and issues. The full report can be downloaded below.
