Consult on our Interim Policy Statement

The consultation period ended on Friday 14 December 2007 and you are no longer able to comment on the Interim Policy Statement.

We are currently in the process of reviewing all of the responses we have received. A report will then be compiled and made available for the public to view.

Consultation details
The majority of people who took part in last summers consultation exercise about the future of Kirkby town centre stated the need for major regeneration.

Having considered the results from the consultation alongside supporting evidence the council believes that the comprehensive regeneration of Kirkby town centre is the best option.

This approach has the potential to expand the town centre to the south of Cherryfield Drive, as well as redevelop and improving much of the existing centre. The town centre expansion could potentially include a new football stadium for Everton football club, a large retail and other town centre use development.

This approach could bring significant benefits, such as improved shopping facilities and more jobs, but could also have significant impact on the town and the council needs to consult with the community to be satisfied that all views have been considered.

The council has developed a draft vision for the town centre which is called a draft Interim Policy Statement. This vision provides guidelines on what the council would expect to see in any potential planning application to develop the town centre.

The aim is to create a regenerated town centre that the community will feel proud of and which will provide a new sense of identity and well being to the people of Kirkby.
