Future Schooling in Knowsley
Consultation on admission policies and arrangements for Knowsley secondary learning centres
This consultation is now closed
This
consultation closed on 29 February 2008. Results are now
being analysed and policies will be finalised during the summer
term and published in September 2008.
Background to consultation
Deciding which
secondary learning school or learning centre you would like
your child to attend is an important step. Parents take lots
of factors into account – the distance from home, transport
arrangements, church affiliations, where friends are likely to
attend. Another thing parents need to consider is the
admission policy, including the admission number.
Each learning centre has an admission number – that is the number of places for pupils in year 7 (see below). If there is enough room in a learning centre for all those who apply, then everyone is admitted. However, if there are more young people wanting a place than the admission number, a policy is applied to see who will have priority for a place.
Proposed admission numbers for school year 2009-10
- South Huyton Community Learning Centre - 240
- Halewood Community Learning Centre - 240
- Kirkby Catholic VA Learning Centre - 210
- Kirkby Community Learning Centre - 240
- Prescot and Whiston Community Learning Centre - 240
- Prescot and Whiston Catholic VA Learning Centre - 210
- North Huyton Catholic/Anglican VA Learning Centre - 180 (note: this will also be the number for North Huyton Catholic/Anglican VA from Jan-Aug 2009.
Each learning centre must have a policy which states a list of priorities. Although it is only spring 2008, now is the time to propose a policy and to consult. This means the policy will be finalised in plenty of time for parents to consider which learning centres to apply for.
Below you will find links to the proposed policies for both community and voluntary aided (church linked) learning centres:
- Kirkby Catholic VA Learning Centre (Word 50KB)
- Prescot and Whiston Catholic VA Learning Centre (Word 58KB)
- North Huyton Catholic/Anglican VA Learning Centre (Word 37KB)
- The Community Learning Centres (Word 65KB)
It is important to get the policy right, as it must stay unchanged for two years after the first year of operation.
