General information about student finance
The Student Finance Direct Service has been replaced by Student
Finance England (SFE). SFE is a partnership between the
Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills and the Student
Loans Company Ltd (SLC) to provide financial support to students
entering higher education.
Applying for student funding
New students
All students entering higher education for the first time, or
those who have previously withdrawn from a course or
completed a previous degree course should apply for student
funding through the SFE system. This includes information, advice
and guidance you may need about funding issues. The system can be
accessed by visiting the Student Finance England
website.
Continuing students
All students who are continuing students in 2009/2010 should
apply for support through the Local Authority until the course is
complete, or until March 2011, at which time all applications will
be administered by Student Finance England.

If you are a new student and would prefer to complete a
paper application form you can request form PN1 from the
Customer Support Office on 0845 300 5090.
Continuing students can request form PR1 from the
number above or from Knowsley Student Support Service on
0151 443 3258.
Application deadlines
To ensure that you receive payment on time at the start of the
new academic year you should submit application by the following
dates:
Non mean tested applications
- New students and continuing students- 24 April 2009
Mean tested applications
- New students - 26 June 2009
- Continuing students - 22 May 2009
