School library service

For first rate resources and information which support reading and learning you need the School Library Service.
Available to nurseries and primary, secondary and special schools the service provide a range of up to date resources which support the National Curriculum and Reading for Pleasure work. We also offer training, advice and practical solutions to help you provide an excellent library service.

Packages

Resources

  • Early years collections (board books, picture books, story sacks)
  • Class or library fiction loans (from picture books to adult novels)
  • Non-fiction resources to support all curriculum areas (includes DVDs and resource packs)
  • Reading sets including plays and poetry – for class or book club use or as part of Chatterbooks sessions.  Adult titles also available for teachers/parents reading groups
  • Author packs
  • Story sacks
  • Enhancement boxes (objects, artefacts, ephemera)
  • All resource loans are delivered to and collected from schools at the beginning and end of each term

  • Involvement in the Library Service Creative Writing Competition and awards ceremony
  • Involvement in the Library Service Summer Reading Challenge

  • Introductory library sessions at the public library
  • Staff meetings to raise awareness of initiatives, resources and updates
