Non medical poisons
The retailing of poisons is controlled
by the Poisons Act 1972. The Poisons
List Order 1982 contains a list of
poisons covered by the Poisons Act.
Part I of this list contains poisons that may only be sold by a registered pharmacist.
Part II of the list contains the poisons which cannot be sold unless you are registered to do so with your Local Authority.
Certain household products such as powerful cleaning products and disinfectants for example contain ingredients which are poisonous.
There are also a number of gardening products which are classed as poisonous.
The list of Part II poisons are available by contacting us using the details below.
In addition there is a list of common products which are classed as poisons and which may help you to decide if you require to be registered. The list is fairly comprehensive but may not cover all poisons, so check with your suppliers if you have any doubts.
Copies of the Poisons Act 1972 and other legislation mentioned above can be purchased from Her Majesty's Stationery Office.
Registration is annual running from 1st April to 31st March.
